Didn't they get that Raymond (Dustin Hoffman's character) was an autistic & a savant, who essentially did not change from the beginning of thefilm to the end. Yes, Ray was reconnected with his long lost brother, Charlie Babbitt (Tom Cruise), but he is not "cured" at the end of the film. The character who is transformed by the end of the film is Charlie - he learns a great deal about love - unconditional and patient love - which allows him to understand his family better, re-priortize his own life and move forward.

you are SO RIGHT to be disheartened by this! I'm also trying to focus my own blog (as an Aspie parent) on connecting the Autism world with the Neuro-Typical world for the obvious benefit of ALL worlds. My way of looking at the world and issues facing teenage girls helps parents develop the skills they need to have a more connected and fun relationship with their teenager.toffelnigarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01124397211538244073noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3212274702531584502.post-91776571779286530142012-12-04T02:12:03.755-05:002012-12-04T02:12:03.755-05:00This makes me so upset too. I have a 5 year old daughter with autism, and though she is young, beautiful, no major behaviors (at least not many in public) and emerging verbal communication, I am anxious for what her future holds...Ashley Marikohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17987319928490156013noreply@blogger.com
